Samsung has revealed that one of the key features of its upcoming Galaxy S8 device will be delayed.
While us Brits had already been told full support for the company's new Siri-rivalling digital assistant Bixby would not be available at launch, users in the United States and Samsung's native Korea had been promised full day-one access.
The company's widely touted artificial intelligence tool Bixby - seen as a rival for Apple's Siri - won't be fully operational in time for the US release of the Galaxy S8. "Bixby Voice will be available in the USA on the Galaxy S8 later this spring".
Yet the biggest differentiating factor between Samsung's software and Siri or Google Assistant is Bixby's ability to perform more manual tasks on your behalf, like lightly editing a photo or composing and sending an email. Both come with an Infinity display, giving you a massive 95% screen to body ratio.
But the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will now ship without voice control for Bixby. Bixby Vision is the digital assistant's augmented reality camera feature, Bixby Home is a panel of widgets, and Bixby Reminders sets reminders for users. This news would certainly disappoint the buyers who have been waiting to try out the Bixby assistant on the Galaxy S8. Bixby Vision taps into the S8's camera to recognize objects and deliver information about them - the price of a book you're looking at, for example, or the rating on a bottle of wine you may be thinking about purchasing. The company's latest front runner that is expected to launch April 21 worldwide will not incorporate the Samsung's hallmark feature for the USA customers.
